I was very fortunate to be involved in a local information session on the Indigenous Voice Referendum. I do personally support a yes vote and my reasons are pretty straight forward and my reasons can be found in the questions I ask myself below.
- Is what governments are doing now helping to close the gap and fix disadvantage for indigenous peoples? NO.
- Should the Voice Referendum become a political football where politicians are playing games with the welfare and lives of Indigenous peoples for personal political gain? NO
- Are there any real reasons why the constitution of this county should not include recognition of our indigenous people and that indigenous people should not have a voice that is heard in Canberra? NO.
- Did the world end when land rights were granted to Indigenous people and the concept of Terra nullius was overturned despite ridiculous claims that were propagated in the main stream media at the time? NO
- Do I like conservative scare campaigns that actually have no substance or logical reasoning, just like the nonsense propagated during the same sex marriage plebiscite? NO.
- Does the Voice offer indigenous people any rights or privileges that are different to rights I hold now? NO
Six No’s and voting YES…
So before you make your decision I just ask that you put aside 2 hrs to watch this video from esteemed indigenous people (not politicians) who can far better explain than me where the Voice came from, what the Voice is and why its important to this country. Then make up your own minds as to if your voting yes or no.
